Nikkor Lenses
Without question, lenses are THE most important part of any photographer's equipment. You can have the most expensive camera body in the world but attach a poor lens and you may as well have used the camera on your mobile phone. You will find as you use your camera, maybe with the supplied lens, that it has its limitations that need to be worked around. For example if you have a fixed focal length lens then you have to physically move nearer to or further from your subject to get the composition you want.
| Lens Focal Length* | Terminology | Typical Photography |
|---|---|---|
| Less than 21 mm | Extreme Wide Angle | Architecture |
| 21-35 mm | Wide Angle | Landscape |
| 35-70 mm | Normal | Street & Documentary |
| 70-135 mm | Medium Telephoto | Portraiture |
| 135-300+ mm | Telephoto | Sports, Bird & Wildlife |
*Note: Lens focal lengths are for 35 mm equivalent cameras.
